Jazz Ensemble
Those in the DHS Jazz Ensemble are part of a select group of musicians, chosen by audition in the early fall of each year. These groups are primarily made up of musicians from the Concert Band, but all interested musicians may audition. The groups study, rehearse and perform all styles of jazz—big band style to contemporary—with a special emphasis on developing improvisation skills and soloing ability.
Members meet primarily on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30. All members of the jazz ensemble are expected to attend sectional rehearsals as scheduled by the director or the section leader.
The Ensemble performs several times throughout the year, at evening concerts, assemblies and other venues and performs at multiple competitions, including the Berklee Jazz Festival, the biggest high school jazz festival in the country.
